I was given a second-rate window and the optics are screwy, literally. It looks like you're looking through a soda bottle and this distortion is below standard.

Why can't the insurance company pay for a quality replacement instead of ...

The Real Mackey or the Real McCoy

The phrase the real McCoy was used extensively in my family when I was growing up. My dad would usually authenticate something by saying it was the real McCoy. One day while in the library I picked up a book on vignettes of language. The book was pocket-size and fairly thin, but contain a world of knowledge on things we hear practically everyday.

It's been sometime since I've read that book on vignettes of language, but when searching the web for reference material on this topic, I found ...

portmanteau

What is a portmanteau?

This is a good start on this forum as it is about language. Today when surfing the web for avatars, I stumbled upon a neat page that has introductions about several manga and anime. In particular in reference to portmanteau was the anime introduction about Azumanga Daioh.

There's a wikipeida on Azumanga Daioh and it is here where the word portmanteau is used.

Check it out, folks!

I'm new here and I hope to add to this forum by discussing interesting topics on language. English is my native langauge, but I also have studied Spanish, Russian, Latin and Chinese. I might say something about them all. I hope to add to this forum by showing what I've learned and by asking questions.
